Avant, l’Abbaye était une maison pour retraites spirituelles destinée aux groupes religieux et des pèlerins. Fondée en 1131 par un anglais, Etienne Harding, 3ème abbé de Cîteaux, l’Abbaye cistercienne a une longue tradition d’humilité, de paix et d’hospitalité.

Situés dans un beau parc de 7 hectares, les vieux bâtiments ont été restaurés pour créer un château-hôtel de luxe, un havre de paix où il fait bon se reposer en profitant de l’atmosphère de ce lieu magique.
Les moines ont disparu depuis longtemps mais l’Abbaye de la Bussière garde un air de tranquillité bien difficile à trouver dans ce monde moderne.

L’Abbaye offre une expérience personnelle unique ; une rencontre avec l’histoire, l’art de l’accueil développé par le personnel, la cuisine et le confort. Elle incarne parfaitement le concept des 5Cs de Relais & Châteaux : Courtoisie, Charme, Caractère, Calme et Cuisine.

Devenu membre de Relais & Châteaux et après l’obtention de l’Etoile Michelin en 2007, nous avons démarré 2008 avec la distinction prestigieuse, ‘Hideaway of the Year 2008’, accordée par le journaliste américain Andrew Harper.

En juin 2009, nous avons terminé les rénovations de l'Orangerie, afin de créer une salle superbe pour les séminaires et les fonctions privés.

2010 a merveilleusement bien commencé pour l'Abbaye, grâce à notre chef de cuisine, Emmanuel Hébrard, qui a retenu le Macaron Michelin. Nos félicitations à Emmanuel et à toute l'équipe.

Nous habitons toujours dans le parc de l’Abbaye avec nos enfants et nos animaux, dont 2 poneys miniatures qui se promènent souvent dans le parc.

Prior to our arrival, the Abbaye was a spiritual retreat for religious groups and pilgrims. Founded in 1131 by an Englishman, Stephen Harding, third Abbot of Cîteaux, the Abbaye’s origins are deeply rooted in the Cistercian Order’s long tradition of humility, peace and hospitality.

Set in 15 acres of beautiful parkland, the old buildings have been transformed into a luxurious country house hotel where you can relax and enjoy the unique, refreshing atmosphere of this ancient place.
The monks have long gone but Abbaye de la Bussière still retains an air of tranquillity, hard to find in the modern world.

The Abbaye offers an individual and unique experience, not only historically with the buildings but professionally with the staff, cuisine and amenities. It is the very epitome of the values of the 5Cs philosophy of Relais & Châteaux: Courtesy, Charm, Character, Calm and Cuisine.

Following the successful entry into the Relais & Châteaux association and achieving our Michelin star in 2007, we began 2008 with the prestigious award of Andrew Harper ‘Hideaway of the Year 2008’.

In June 2009, we finished the renovations of the Orangerie to create a superb facility for seminars and private functions.

2010 got off to a good start when we learned that the Abbaye, with our head chef Emmanuel Hébrard, retained its Michelin star. Our congratulations to Emmanuel and all the team.

We continue to live with in the Abbaye park with our children and pets, including two miniature Shetland ponies who on occasions roam the park.
